A dental assistant in Arkansas CAN do the following under direct supervision of the dentist:
– A dental assistant in Arkansas can provide support to a dentist under the supervision of a properly licensed dentist.
– There are x-ray licensing requirements to operate and perform x-rays. Before taking x-rays, you must complete the following requirements: (1) complete a dental assistant certification program approved by the Arkansas State Board of Dental Examiners and (2) apply to the Arkansas State Board of Dental Examiners
– Chart and inspect the mouth and teeth.
– Apply fluoride topically.
– Place a rubber dam.
– Take blood pressure, temperature and pulse.
– Give oral hygiene instructions.
A dental assistant in Arkansas CANNOT do the following:
– Remove stains and deposits from teeth (clean teeth).
– Place sealants on the teeth.
– Apply stainless steel crowns or fillings
– Repair or fill cavities.
– Give or administer anesthetics (shots).
– Administer and monitor nitrous oxide or oxygen UNLESS you have completed the requirements set forth by the Arkansas State Board of Dental Examiners
– Any other activities or duties of dentistry that are specifically limited to dentists or dental hygenists.
A registered dental assistant in Arkansas CAN do the following:
– Coronal polishing
– Take x-rays
– Dental sealants
– Administer and monitor nitrous oxide or oxygen
